Throughput of Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg JSC in 2019
In 2019, Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg JSC (SP SPb) handled more than 6.7 million tonnes of cargo, which is 13% less than in 2018. The decrease should be attributed to reduction of metal exports amid the changes in the global market, particularly to reduction of ferrous metal supplies from NLMK and Severstal.
In the reporting period, SP SPb handled 2.5 million tonnes of ferrous metal (-34%), 1.2 million tonnes of non-ferrous metal (-2%), 792,000 tonnes of metal scrap (-4%). Temporary decline of ferrous metal flow was used by the port for modernization of the dedicated storage facilities. With the works completed, ferrous metal storage capacity of the port grew by over 20% to 280,000 tonnes.
Metal transshipment decrease was compensated by a 49-pct increase in transshipment of wood pellets to 444,000 tonnes and a 16-pct growth in transshipment of mineral fertilizers in big-bags, to 552,000 tonnes.
Total handling of general cargo fell by 17% to 5.5 million tonnes while transshipment of dry bulk and loose cargo grew by 29% to 769,000 tonnes. The company’s container throughput totaled 32,400 TEUs.
In 2019, SP SPb handled almost 6.3 million tonnes of export cargo (-16%) and 440,000 tonnes of import cargo (+74%) with exports and imports accounting for 93.5% and 6.5% accordingly.
